Danny Lasoski and Guy Forbrook Reunite to Take On the Advanced Auto Parts World of Outlaws at Knoxville Raceway By
Bob Jones Rain was back in the forecast and set to wash out last weekend's racing action for the second consecutive week. Friday night's show at US 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO was rained out and things looked bleak for Saturday's show at Knoxville, but the weather finally took a turn for the better and we were back racing again at Knoxville. Lasoski and Forbrook's past success is no secret as the duo combined for 122 Feature Victories spanning from 1989 to 1996, despite not racing together three of those years (1991, 1994 & 1995). Together they dominated Knoxville Raceway winning 43 races in five seasons, including winning five Knoxville Raceway Track Championships in all five attempts. They also won 38 times at Husets Speedway and won three Husets Track Championships (1989, 1990 & 1993) along the way. Needless to say, all eyes were on the Forbrook 5 to see if they could rekindle some of the old magic. "We were fast right out of the box," said Lasoski. "We were quickest in our hotlap session and third quick in qualifications so we knew right away we had a fast car." Lasoski went on to finish third in his Heat Race and ninth in the Dash. A ninth place finish in the Feature Race wasn't the finish The Dude and Forbrook had hoped for, but it was a decent starting point for the team to work with. "We chased the car a little getting dialed in for the Feature, but I think we will only get faster and faster the more Guy and I race together," said Lasoski. "He races a combination of equipment that I'm not accustomed to, but sometimes that is part of learning to work with a new team. We hadn't raced together since Cheater's Day in 1999 so it was pretty cool to be back together again," he said. Sunday night Lasoski headed to the State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO for a ASCS/WOW show piloting the Donnie Cooper 01. The Dude drew the seventh position for his Heat Race and finished fourth. With the passing points format in effect, Lasoski made the Feature Race but was buried deep in the field. "We started 15th and the track was pretty worn out by feature time. Most of the field was flying around on the top side but we had the car dialed in for the bottom. That allowed us to make our way to the front. There was a late caution and I thought we might have something for them at the end, but the track took rubber towards the top and we ran out of laps. Donnie (Cooper) has good stuff and it was nice to race with him again," said Lasoski. Up next for Lasoski are a pair of World of Outlaws shows at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL and Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY. Lasoski has three career feature victories at Tri-City Speedway including an All Star victory in 1996 while driving for Chris Black (Black 1z), a WoO GumOut Series victory in 2000 while driving the Tony Stewart 20 and a World of Outlaws Series win last year with Dennis Roth (Roth 83). Paducah International was the site of a thrilling WoO victory last year when Lasoski charged from the 15th starting spot for the win.
